Exposiciones / Presentación

As part of a general project dedicated to the recuperation of the history of left-wing politics and the memory of the recent past, the Foundation organises exhibitions for the public in general. The Foundation uses these shows to place figures that have been important to Spanish socialism (Pablo Iglesias) in their historical context, to commemorate landmarks of the history of democracy in Spain (women's right to vote, the 25th anniversary of the Spanish Constitution) or to make events whose meaning must be rethought by the collective conscience relevant once again in contemporary times (the exile of the Republicans, the exile of children during the Civil War).

Exhibitions have become one of the Foundation's most important activities and attain great public repercussion. They are also used to display the material deposited in the Foundation's Documentary Collection: posters, documents, photographs, letters, objects, works of art, etcetera.

PABLO IGLESIAS     1875 - 1925

In 2000, the Foundation celebrated the 150th anniversary of the birth of Pablo Iglesias with an exhibition at the Retiro Park in Madrid that illustrated the different periods of the life and times of the founder of the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party.

EXILE

This exhibition presented images from the successive periods of the Spanish Republicans’ exile from 1939 to 1978: the retreat, the Diaspora, the second defeat, the trasterrados (long-term/permanent exiles), the wandering Numancia and the returnees. It was on show in Madrid, Granada, La Coruña and Cádiz.

THE EXILE OF THE CHILDREN

When the Spanish Civil War broke out, thousands of children had to leave Spain to escape the bombings, hunger and fear. The exhibition presented a reflection of their suffering, tracing their journey to the countries of destination and their subsequent experience there. It was on show in Bilbao, Barcelona, Salamanca, Seville, Badajoz, Valencia, Gijón, La Coruña, Saragossa and Madrid.

WOMEN'S RIGHT TO VOTE     1877 - 1978

The exhibition used documents, objects and images to offer an itinerary along the history of how women conquered the right to vote, from the first American suffragettes to Spanish women in the 20th century. As well as in Madrid, it was on show in Granada, La Coruña and Seville.

WORDS AND IMAGES: 25 Years of the Spanish Constitution

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Spanish Constitution, an exhibition was staged at the Círculo de Bellas Artes (Fine Arts Circle) in Madrid, gathering original graphic works by 25 Spanish artists for the Foundation's project.
